<summary type="text">Decisions: Executive Council  Forty-Eighth Ordinary Session 11-12 February 2026 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The decision of the Executive Council addresses progress on institutional reforms within the African Union (AU). Taking note of recommendations from the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) and Member States’ observations, the Executive Council focused specifically on the work of the Sub-Committee on Structural Reforms recalling the earlier commitments to institutional restructuring and requested the PRC to finalize the review of outstanding AU entities and report by January 2027. The Council further directed the AU Commission to ensure equitable and proportionate representation of all Member States in the reformed institutional structures, with particular attention to advancing quotas .

The Forty-Seventh Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, held from 10–11 July 2025 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, convened Ministers of Foreign Affairs and other designated representatives of AU Member States to deliberate on key continental priorities. The session reviewed progress on previously adopted decisions, considered reports from specialized technical committees, and adopted a series of new decisions aimed at advancing political integration, economic development, peace and security, governance, and institutional reform across the Union. The Council also examined administrative, financial, and operational matters essential to strengthening the effectiveness of AU organs and institutions.
