The Ministerial Committee on scale of assessment on contributions and the Committee of Fifteen Ministers of Finance (F15) convened a joint virtual meeting on February 9, 2024, chaired by Honorable Mr. Ottoniel Santos from Angola. The meeting aimed to assess Member States' budget contributions to the African Union for 2023, recommend sanctions for late payments and  reviewing  progress on payment plans for countries facing , discuss outstanding contributions to the Peace Fund, assess Partner funding and review investment activities for the African Union.

The YAWC&#13;
The Young Africans Writing Contest (YAWC) is an ECOSOCC initiative that aims to&#13;
bridge the gap between African youth and the African Union (AU). ECOSOCC&#13;
launched the inaugural YAWC in 2021 to connect young Africans to the African&#13;
Union. Specifically, the YAWC empowers youths to reflect on their contributions to&#13;
the advancement of the continent and provides them with a free space to articulate&#13;
themselves.

<description>African Ministers of Trade adopt a Declaration of a common position tabled in Geneva before the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference.
African Ministers of Trade (AMOT) adopted and presented a Declaration of common position&#13;
at the World Trade Organization (WTO) 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) held from the 12&#13;
June to 15 June 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland. The African Ministers rallied a common position&#13;
on, inter alia, the WTO Response to the Pandemic, the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual&#13;
Property Rights (TRIPS) Waiver, food security, agriculture and fisheries, and the WTO&#13;
Reforms. The push for reforms at the WTO is aimed at ensuring the WTO comprehensively&#13;
addresses matters that have been on its negotiating agenda for years, such as agriculture,&#13;
disciplines on fisheries subsidies, special and differential treatment for developing and leastdeveloped countries, as well as other institutional matters.

The African Union Executive Council Decision 1143(XL) of the 40th Ordinary Session&#13;
of the Executive Council, 02-03 February 2022, requested the ECOSOCC Secretariat&#13;
in collaboration with the relevant departments of the African Union Commission to&#13;
launch the call for applications of the 4th Permanent General Assembly of ECOSOCC&#13;
during the second quarter of 2022 and ensure strict compliance with eligibility criteria&#13;
of ECOSOCC membership as provided for in the Statutes of the Organ. In furtherance&#13;
of the aforementioned Executive Council Decision, the ECOSOCC Secretariat&#13;
solicited applications from African Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for membership&#13;
into the ECOSOCC General Assembly

The Economic Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC), in its capacity as the Civil Society Organ of the African Union (AU), today virtually facilitated the inaugural annual consultation between African Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the AU on the implementation of the AU’s peace and security formulas and declarations.Article 20 of the protocol relating to the establishment of the PSC Protocol,encourages non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, and other civil society organizations to participate actively in the efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability in Africa.

2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the Pan-African Women’s Organisation (PAWO), PAWO is Africa’s first collective women’s organization, which has contributed to the struggle for the continent’s liberation from colonialism, the elimination of apartheid and the eradication of gender inequalities, discrimination and injustices against women.Since its establishment in 1962 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, a year before the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now the African Union, PAWO’s mission has been to ensure that women’s concerns are integrated in Africa’s liberation agenda and that women participate, equally, fully and effectively, in the political, economic, social and cultural life of the continent. PAWO, a Specialised Agency of the African Union, has played an important role in mobilizing African women on the continent and the Diaspora to rally around collective struggles for a free and prosperous Africa.

<description>CSOs called upon to promote the AU’s Free Movement Protocol
This clarion call to CSOs was made during the opening of the Regional CSO Sensitization Forum on the Continental Free Movement Protocol organized by the AU Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC) with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).&#13;
The forum was held from May 17-19 aimed to popularize the FMP and MPFA, and particularly to improve the understanding of African CSOs of the FMP and to provide them with tools to perform advocacy for implementation of the Protocol by member states.

The African Union Economic, Social, and Cultural Council held a forum with its call to action was a recurring theme during the Global Africa People to People Forum (GAPPF), which was held by ECOSOCC in collaboration with the Caribbean Pan African Network (CPAN), the Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago (ESCTT),and the Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) and African Civil Society Organisations.
