Africa CDC, a specialized technical institution of the African Union (AU), was established in January 2016 to bolster public health initiatives in Member States. In February 2022, the AU elevated Africa CDC's status to that of an autonomous public health institution, enhancing its ability to respond swiftly to health emergencies and fulfill the AU's Agenda 2063 health goals. Over the past six years, Africa CDC has played a crucial role in enhancing Africa's public health through strategic guidance, capacity building, training support, and coordinated responses to disease threats, including COVID-19 and other outbreaks.en
