Report of the Secretary General on the Special Emergency Assistance Fund for Drought and Famine in Africa

Abstract

This report summarizes actions taken by the OAU secretariat following the forty-ninth session of the Council of Ministers held in Addis Ababa from February 20 to 25, 1989. The session focused on addressing the pressing issues of drought and famine in Africa. In response, the secretariat directed its efforts toward implementing the decisions adopted by the Council and the recommendations put forth by the Policy Committee of the Special Emergency Assistance Fund. These initiatives aim to provide timely and effective support to mitigate the severe impacts of drought and famine, underscoring the commitment to enhancing food security and resilience in affected regions.
