Abstract

The 1993 Nairobi meeting was the inaugural African regional inter-governmental gathering aimed at formulating Africa’s role in the global effort to combat desertification, especially in drought-prone regions. Delegates from numerous African countries and international organizations discussed critical issues such as socio-economic impacts of desertification, the importance of indigenous and adaptable technologies, and the need for regional cooperation and knowledge sharing.
