The modern history of Africa is marked by a series of tragic events, including slavery, deportation, and colonization from the 16th to the mid-19th century, over 15 million Africans were forcibly taken from their families and enslaved in the Americas by colonizing powers, particularly from the West. While earlier forms of slavery existed in the Mediterranean and other regions.
