This report details the request by the African Network on Prevention and Protection Against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) for Observer Status with the Organization of African Unity (OAU). It outlines ANPPCAN's origins as a non-governmental organization dedicated to combating child abuse and child neglect in Africa. The concept for ANPPCAN emerged in April 1981 during a meeting in Amsterdam organized by the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Child Neglect (ISPCAN), gaining significant support from African delegates.
