Reorganization of the General Secretariat

Abstract

In June 1991, the Secretary General of the OAU Secretariat informed the 27th OAU Assembly of Heads of State and Government about his initiative to establish an inter departmental Task Force. This Task Force to review the organization of the General Secretariat in anticipation of the African Economic Community Treaty. The aim was to align the Secretariat with new organizational priorities and address the evolving political and socio-economic landscape in Africa, as highlighted by the 26th Summit's Declaration and global changes.
