Concept Note For The 2026 African Union Theme on “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063”

Abstract

This concept note presents a summary of the African Union’s preparatory efforts and strategic direction for the implementation of the 2026 Theme of the Year: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” In alignment with Decision Assembly/AU/Dec.912(XXXVIII), the Directorate of Sustainable Environment and the Blue Economy (SEBE) is leading the coordination of an action framework aimed at catalyzing transformative change in water and sanitation governance across the continent.
