Abstract

This report seeks to address measures to preempt election-related conflicts and political violence against the backdrop of the progress made in institution-building for democratic governance, peace, and security by the OAU/AU. At the same time the report outlines the record of Africa’s democratization since the 1990s, pointing to the major milestones in the institutionalization of pluralism, participation, and accountability in Africa.
