Following the declaration of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 30 January 2020, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission convened an Emergency meeting of the African Union (AU) Ministers for a joint continental strategy to respond to Covid 19 in Africa.
