Report of the 9th Meeting of the OAU Conference of African Ministers of Industry Harare, Zimbabwe 1st June 1989

Abstract

The 9th OAU Conference of African Ministers of Industry convened at the Harare International Conference Centre in Zimbabwe on June 13, 1989. This pivotal meeting was held in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization followed the 9th Conference of African Ministers of Industry, which took place from May 29 to 31, 1989. The conference was organized in accordance with a mandate from the OAU Council of Ministers issued in July 1987, emphasizing a two-stage approach for meetings involving United Nations agencies and the OAU. The first stage was designated for African member states of the United Nations, while the second stage was exclusively for OAU member states, reflecting a commitment to enhancing industrial cooperation and development across the continent. This conference served as a platform for dialogue and strategy formulation to promote industrialization and economic growth in Africa.
